Last updated: 06.01.2026

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the counselling services provided by Existential Therapy, delivered exclusively through online sessions. By booking or attending an online session with Existential Therapy, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Service Overview

1.1 Existential Therapy provides online therapeutic counselling sessions to clients based in the United Kingdom.

1.2 All services are delivered digitally via secure video or telephone platforms, and no face‑to‑face therapy is provided.

Eligibility

2.1 You must be 18 years of age or older to access our services.

2.2 By booking or attending a session, you confirm that you have the capacity to enter into this agreement and understand the nature of online therapy.

Online Counselling Agreement

3.1 Online therapy involves communication through digital means. While it can be highly effective, it has limitations compared to in‑person therapy (e.g. potential technology disruption, risks to confidentiality from third‑party platforms).

3.2 You agree that Existential Therapy is not responsible for outcomes outside of the therapeutic process itself, including outcomes related to technology.

Technical Requirements:

3.3 You are responsible for ensuring you have a suitable device, stable internet access, and a private space for your session.

3.4 Existential Therapy is not liable for any loss or damage arising from technical or connectivity issues.

Confidentiality

4.1 All information you share during sessions is treated as confidential in accordance with professional ethical standards (e.g. BACP/UKCP) and applicable UK data protection laws (GDPR).

4.2 Confidentiality may only be breached if:
  a. You express intention to harm yourself or others,
  b. There are safeguarding concerns regarding a child or vulnerable adult,
  c. There is a legal requirement to disclose (e.g. court order).

Session Rules and Expectations

5.1 Length & Frequency: Most sessions are 50 minutes long. Frequency will be agreed with your therapist.

5.2 Start Time: Sessions will begin on time; late start due to technical issues may shorten overall session time.

5.3 Free Initial Contact: A brief initial call may be offered to assess fit prior to the first full session.

Fees, Payment & Cancellation

6.1 Session fees must be paid at the time of booking or as agreed.

6.2 Payments can be made via the online booking system or other accepted methods.

6.3 Cancellation Policy:
  a. You must provide at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a session.
  b. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, you may be charged the full session fee.
  c. Missed sessions without notice are charged in full.

Risks of Online Therapy

7.1 Online therapy may involve exploration of difficult emotions and personal issues. You acknowledge you understand this and are voluntarily participating.

7.2 Online counselling is not suitable for acute crises, emergency situations, or conditions requiring immediate in‑person care. Existential Therapy does not provide crisis intervention services.

Client Responsibilities

8.1 You must engage honestly and respectfully with the therapeutic process.

8.2 You will inform your therapist of any changes in your circumstances (e.g. new diagnoses, risk issues).

8.3 You are responsible for using a private, secure environment for sessions.

Data Protection and Privacy (GDPR)

9.1 Your personal information will be collected, stored and processed in accordance with UK GDPR legislation.

9.2 Existential Therapy’s Privacy Policy explains how your data is handled and is incorporated by reference into these Terms.

9.3 You consent to the use of your personal data for appointment scheduling, communication, and clinical record‑keeping in line with professional standards.

Termination of Services

10.1 Either party may end therapy at any time.

10.2 Existential Therapy reserves the right to discontinue services if these Terms are breached, or if continuing therapy is deemed clinically inappropriate.

10.3 In such cases, suitable referrals or onward support recommendations will be offered where possible.

Governing Law

11.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

11.2 Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Updates to Terms

12.1 Existential Therapy may update these Terms occasionally.

12.2 Clients will be notified of material changes and asked to re‑agree before booking future sessions.
